There are many times when athletes as well as teachers confuse the value they have as people with the color of the belt they wear. They take it for granted that others must respect them and agree with what they say simply because they hold “a position of power”
The symbolism of the belt.
Belts in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, as well as in other martial arts, have a double symbolism. Let’s take the black belt as an example. Externally, it symbolizes a high level of technical training in the art we practice. Internally, it is a symbol of strength, respect and wisdom.
The problem begins, however, when we have trained enough to reach the technical level of a black belt, but internally we have not reached the same level.
A person who has a black belt does not necessarily mean they are great, and someone who has a white belt is not. Our greatness is not hidden in the 8 centimeters of fabric wrapped around our waist.
Never make the mistake of confusing your status with your character.
The respect of others must come from the values, honesty, authenticity and respect that you yourself show toward them, regardless of the belt or status they have.
Worthy of admiration and respect is the person who has achieved balance both internally and externally. A complete person does not hide behind titles.
A complete person does not feel the need to be superior.

BUDO “the way of the warrior”
The path of martial arts is a path of self-knowledge and not a display of power or strength.
True strength is knowing that you can hurt someone, but choosing not to do it.
The way of the warrior is when you can experience peace in times of war.
