The EGO in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

– Before you enter the academy, leave your EGO outside.

-If you do not control your EGO, you will quit.

-Your opponent is your teacher, your EGO is the real opponent.

These are the most common phrases we hear all the time. Let’s see what all of this really means.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a form of submission wrestling that is highly realistic. It is widely spread around the world mainly because of its effectiveness for people who do not have the physical build and strength to respond in hand-to-hand combat.

In other words, a person who may seem weak can, by using the techniques, control and submit a larger and stronger person.

Personality

The word personality comes from the Latin word persona, which means (mask-persona). Whatever word you use to define who you are is false (a mask)

I am – beautiful, smart, strong, ugly, educated, short, fighter, rich, wise, foolish

I am – doctor, lawyer, teacher, king, cook, etc.

Any definition you try to place on what you ARE, whether to add or remove value, is a (mask)

EGO

The EGO is what we think we are.

The EGO is the illusion we have created or that has been created for us around ourselves. A false image that we constantly try, with great effort and pain, to protect.

It is a mask we wear and are afraid to remove because we think that without the mask we are vulnerable and exposed. We have worn it for so many years that we have forgotten what our true face looks like.

Leave your EGO outside

Erase everything. Enter empty. Like a blank sheet of white paper. Leave outside your titles, your wealth, your fame, your misery, your complaints, your fears, your insecurities and become a student again.

As you take off your clothes to put on the uniform, leave behind everything that weighs you down and everything you are trying to protect. Feel free again, feel like a child again.

The only thing that prevents you from the freedom of making mistakes and learning is that you hold on to a thought of who you are.

When you put on the uniform and enter the training area, no one cares and nowhere is it visible how much money you have in the bank, whether you have 200 employees, whether you are a prime minister or a simple worker.

This is the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that I loved.

As for your much-desired mask, do not be afraid, it will be there for you to wear again when you leave and the rest of the world sees you, but even then remember that it is simply a mask and the mask is not YOU.
